Many thanks for taking the trouble to find this information for me. I know very little about Edward John Dawes so this helps to put some flesh on the bones. I will have a look at the newspapers on the Trove website to see if I can find anything further.
I will also check the Boer war records as you suggest.
I am very keen to find out who Val and Tommy are as these names are engraved on the silver napkin rings that I have. Interesting that my Grandmother kept these.
