Jean, thank you for trying, the Mrs Patrick in the unassisted immigrant index may be her. she was born in Australia and was returning to family in Tasmania . The reason I am not sure if John Patrick returned with her is he seems to have not contact with the family once we find them back in Tasmania, they were Married in Hobart in1863 he was a foot Soldier they have 2 sons who both die, they go to England when he finishes his service, they have 3 children there, immigrate to New Zealand in 1877with 3 children and that is the last we can prove of them being together, Mary has 3 children (twins who both dye) and a son my grandfather, in New Zealand for what ever reason she did not reg the fathers name for any of these children, we find Mary and the 4 children back in Hobart abt 1885. and can trace her and the children to Qld where she died. we recently found a death for John Patrick in Melbourne in 1904 his death cert list no children and him a widowMary out lived him by 15 yrs. dieing in 1919.
I have been try to find if they came back to Aust together as this would probly mean John was the father of children in NZ, if he came back before her it is possible some on else was the father and that may be the reason she did not reg a father.
Her Maiden name is Coombs , as you can see we have done a lot research. the black hole seems to be the Father of the Children born in NZ and just when they returned to Australia
if you have any suggestion of how to untangle it I would be greatful. with thanks
Cherrilyn
