Sorry, Jean.Don't know what I was thinking of.John's wife was Catherine Feroni, daughter of an Italian artdealer in Dublin, whom he married Jan. 1806.
In a way, it's a pity he wasn't a convict since then I would know a lot more about him.His son Joseph's own story was that he sailed to Australia "before the mast" so must have "jumped ship" which is why there is no record of his arrival.By the 1840's Joseph was an apparently prosperous mill-owner in Clarence Town.Could he have brought his parents out ?There's a mystery here.Thanks for your interest.
