Hi Michael
I have seen plenty of clerical errors on bmds, and not only with non-english speaking families. I have always looked for 'common threads' in linking families together when names were found to be recorded incorrectly.
The certificate of the death in 1877 has proved my first thoughts that this was another HANSEN child.
And there was another clerical error with the death of Edith May. The Index that I access is on cds and the search fields allow for just parents first names without first names of the person being searched for, and the Index has this entry.
HANSEN Eda aged 4m died 1881reg. #6293
And for Anton.
HANSEN Anton aged 20d died 1886 reg. #7807
4 Hans Hansen’s buried at Williamstown.
To resolve this quandary one would need to see if there are headstone inscriptions. Is there a descendant still in Melbourne who is willing to visit the cemetery, or maybe a pilgramage for you to visit Williamstown one day?
Google maps have Dover St Williamstown VIC as one street back from the sea, and the cemetery address is Champion Rd Williamstown North.
Cheers
Rhonda
