Queensland Police Gazette
Please could somebody kindly tell me if there is an entry for John A Bradley in the Queensland Police Gazette for May 1869?
I found a reference to a John A. Bradley near the end of an article on page 6 of The Brisbane Courier, Saturday 15 May 1869.
"The first apparent clue to the discovery of the fate ofPatrick Halligan has been found at Gympie. About half past 9 a.m. of May 7, a man came to the office of Mr. Joseph, the gold assayer, offering a parcel of gold for sale. There were several persons present, and they asked him where he got it from. First of all he said that it was alluvial gold that he had found a short distance from Gympie, where he had been prospecting, but ultimately he admitted that he had lately come from Rockhampton. Mr. Joseph saw at once that it was retorted gold broken up, and sent for the police. Sergeant Collopy arrived and interrogated the man, who said that his name was John A. Bradley. He was unable to state what was the weight of the gold he had offered for sale, but it was found to weigh nearly one third of the quantity that Mr. Halligan had received from the works of the Alliance Company...He also said that he had just come from the Wombo station, near Dalby, where he had been overseer....Sergeant Collopy was in communication with the Rockhampton police yesterday, and it is expected that the mystery connected with what there is every reason to believe was the murder and robbery of Mr. Halligan will soon be cleared up."
