Trish, I have found some very early victorian records are listed on the NSW bdm index At least we have transcription agents and they are so much cheaper I think there is one in victoria now as well I have ordered bdm certificates online from victoria and they were $17 but it was only a record of all the registrations that day and you have to decipher them yourself from all the other records and they hard to follow For $25.80 you get a photocopied record of the same original handwritten record & not even a proper certificate It is a bit of a rip off I think I try to do everyone as cheaply as possible as otherwise you can run up large bills I think the Tasmanian ones were about $41 which is ridiculous I found the Scottish ancestors easier than Irish as I could find census records for them which helped tremendously Most of the Irish side of the family the info came from the film reels from immigration indexes in NSW which had fantastic info but are a complete pain to go through and very hard on the eyes as they are scrawled and often faded There were quite a few spelling errors with place names but got it worked out in the end with the help of an irish lady I have been researching for about 16 years now and love the challenge and it keeps the brain active as well especially when you are getting on in years Jean Notify Administrator about this message?
