You probably know this already, but there are records of three men by the name of William Dumbrell having married in N.S.W. in the 19th. and early 20th centuries: (1) William to Harriett Dearling, 1847 (2) William to Ann Boyd, 1850 (3) William H. to Jeanette Bush, 1903. I think you can rule out number 3 as your ancestor. If the 1847 William is the one you seek, he and Harriet had ten children (at least - and a possible eleventh). There is no record of issue of the marriage of William Dumbrell and Ann Boyd. William and Harriet produced (1) William,1848: (2) Henry,1850: (3)Edmund,1852: (4)John,1854 (5) Jane,1856 : (6)Ann E.,1858: (7) Charles V., 1860 :(8) Arthur F., 1863 : (9) Thomas R. 1867 : (10) Alfred S., 1870. There is the death record (1930) of a George Dumbrell, son of William and Harriet, but there is no birth record. The original William died in 1912 and Harriet in 1900. William the first son of William and Harriet died in 1934: Henry, #2, died in 1941: Edmund, #3, in 1912: Charles, #7, in 1924: Arthur, #8, in 1930 : Thomas, #9, in 1937. There are no records that I can find of the death dates of any other others. The Newcastle Dumbrell family, of whom I wrote in my previous letter, were married in 1913 : the bride was a Margaret Jones.
Good luck in your search. Will. Smith, Canada
