Francis, I've just "Googled" Bakers Light Horse and among the results were two books about the Zulu War in 1879 which mention Bakers Horse.
While the dates are different the continent is right - maybe this could be what you are looking for, or a step in the general direction anyway.
The books are:
"Zulu War 1879: Twilight of a Warrior Nation", authors Ian Knight and Ian Castle (1992)
and a paperback
"Zulu War - Volunteers, Irregulars and Auxiliaries" by Ian Castle, no date given.
