I have been searching for years to obtain any information about my late husband`s mother, she claimed on her marriage cert that her name was BLANCHE EILEEN MITCHELL, she married Arthur Jarvis in 1913 at Chatham Kent, he was a Royal Navy seaman and was stationed at that time on the Pembroke. Artghur divorced Blanche in 1910 because of her having an affair with Ernest Hawkyard, which resulted in the birth of a son on Jan 18 1918 at Brightlingsea Essex. However, on the birth certificate for GORDON GRAHAM STUART STRINGER, she stated that his father was George Stringer an Australian soldier in WW1, he was returned to Australia after being wounded. On the cert she also stated that her maiden name had been Fraser and she dropped her middle name of Eileen. She had also stated that her father was John Mitchell a Sgt Major in the Cameron Highlanders. I have been unable to trace her birth under the name of Mitchell or Fraser, so it seems obvious that she must hae used a false name. I have also been unable to find out what happened to her son Gordon, could she have gone to Australia perhaps? although I have the army record for George Stringer, and he was unmarried, and living with his mother when he was returned to Australia. Blanche must have known George Stringer to have used his name, is it possible she contacted him and led him to believe that Gordon was his son, and had taken him to Australia after the war ended? My late husband had been put into a children`s home after his father died, and knew nothing about his parents, he had believed that his mother had abandoned him and that his father may have been killed during the war. Sadly he died before much progress had been made in trying to trace information about his family, but our son decided to try and find these details, he has traced a great deal of information about the Jarvis family, but is frustrated at not being able to find out anything about his grandmother Blanche, someone somewhere must know about her, so if anyone can help, please please contact me, any information no matter how small would be appreciated, thank you.
