Hello Louise,
this is a tricky and interesting one to chase.
Victorian Pioneers Index show two marriages to Walter PEMBLETON'S and both marriages in Beechworth.
One is to Elizabeth Ann NICHOLLS in 1866. #1332 and the Index indicate 11 children to this couple.(all born in Beechworth)
Another is to a Blanche COADE in 1874. # 1463
The BDM index show's that there are four children born to Walter PEMBLETON and Blanche NICHOLLS (not COADE).(all born in Beechworth)
I had a look at RootsWeb.com and found some one that mentions Blanche NICHOLLS in their family research.
It seems that Blanche's birth name is NICHOLLS. COADE is the Surname of the husband to her first marriage.
Elizabeth Ann NICHOLLS is her sister.
I have cut and paste a little of their notes and this may explain it a little better.
"Blanche Nicholls married three times - the first to her 52 your old cousin, the second time to a hotel owner called Walter Pemberton whose son had married her elder sister, and finally to a man younger than her son. All her offspring eventually moved to Perth after the collapse of the Victorian boom economy. She has an unmarked grave in Beechworth."
"Blanche Nicholls was born 1852 in Constantine Cornwall, and died 1902 in Beechworth. She was the daughter of 2. John Murrish Nicholls and 3. Mary Ann Coade. She married Thomas Coade 22 FEB 1868 in Nicholls Home, Beechworth, son of John Coade and Blanche Johns. He was born 1815 in Praze, Crowan Cornwall, was christened 07 MAY 1815, and died 1874 in Beechworth. She married Walter Pemberton 1874 in Beechworth. He was born 1825 in London, and died 08 APR 1895 in Beechworth. She married Machin Tomlinson. He was born 1865 in Beechworth, and died ABT 05 JUL 1944. He was buried in Beechworth Cemetery."
If you contact the researchers of the COAD tree they may be able to clear the matter up a bit more.
Simply visit this link:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgihttp://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi
Then under "Surname" type in PEMBERTON
then under "Death Place" type in Beechworth.
When the information appears, click on your choice of names, and you will find contact addresses etc.
This may have cleared it up a bit for you or muddied the waters
good luck
cheers
Tony
p.s. If you require the names of the children and birth and death dates do not hesitate to ask.
