Stephen Reynolds B. 1828 Redruth Cornwall D. 1908 Omeo Australia
Looking for Australian, British, American descendants of Stephen Reynolds born 28th August 1828, Redruth, Cornwall England. Grandson of Captain Stephen Carkeek. Son of William Reynolds and Francis (deceased 1830/31.) William Reynolds was in partnership with Henry Reynolds – Pork Merchants of Penzance, Cornwall.
Half brother was William Henry Reynolds (who was in business at Mansions House Chambers, 11 Queen Victoria St, London.)
Engaged by the Quebec Copper Mining Company, Canada, Stephen Reynolds sailed from Penzance to Quebec 2nd May 1848 aboard the William Conners. He was accompanied to Canada by his sister and his brother in law, Henry Nichols (?)
Stephen Reynolds married Mary Grogan who was from a (Jesuit?) college in Detroit. Mary was born Ballamness, Ireland and her family were Dublin Linen Merchants.
Married in Ontonogon Canada, they ran The Reynolds Tavern for a short period.
Following gold for across America, Stephen became an American Citizen in Litchfield Connecticut 18th September 1850.
He eventually departed New York for Melbourne, Australia (on either the Harry Bluff or Horatio Hewitt) during the Civil War and arrived in Melbourne Australia 1862.
I also have correspondence between Stephen’s son William Reynolds (brother of Stephen Reynolds) of Melbourne and his first cousin Minerva “Minnie” Inch of Missoula, Montana USA dated 1919-1921. Minerva mentions her children Beatrice and Herbert Inch. I am also looking for any descendents of that branch of the family
