Emigration to Australia from Norfolk, England
I am compiling information on emigrants from Norfolk to Australia and would be interested to hear from any descendants of Benjamin and Lydia Grix who came from Marsham, Norfolk but also lived at Aylsham. They emigratedin 1848 with their children Charles 22, Henry 19, John 17, Maria 15, Caroline 13, William 9, Martha 5, Matthew 2. Appropriately they sailed on the Nelson, which left Plymouth, Devon on 31 July 1848 and arrived at Port Philip on 11 November.Benjamin Grix was an agricultural labourer who on arrival was to be employed for 6 months by Dr. Hope at Geelong.Daughter Maria was a nursemaid who was to be employed for 6 months by J. Benn at Geelong. They left behind numerous members of the Grix family, so I would be interested to know how they fared in Australia. Thanks in advance for any information on this or any other Norfolk emigrants 1836-1860.
