Quick google on 80th Regiment gives service dates 1793-1926
This may explain why they weren't on the 1851 census, If EW died before 1861 Census maybe he'd left or was injured in India or somewhere.??? or not.
Also a book exists - A History of the South Staffordshire Regiment (1705-1923) by James P. Jones.
Let you know what else I find. Rose
