George Lockwood & wife, Mary Lancaster - England to Tasmania, mid 1800s
George Lockwood married Mary Lancaster on 24 October 1840, in Strensall, England. Mary Lancaster was born about 1820. She was the daughter of Thomas Lancaster and Mary Clarke, who had 14 children. Info I have on George & Mary Lockwood, is that they were taken to Tasmania by the English government, for "free" - "to aid in the settlement of that country." George Lockwood was "engaged in ranching and goldmining in Tasmania." Mary had two brothers (Thomas & William Lancaster) who went to America (Wisconsin & Illinois) about 1846. Other places in England that are associated with this Lancaster family are Thirkelby (North Yorkshire), Towthorp, Skipton On Swale, and York. I would be interested in corresponding with any descendants of these families. I am a descendant of Thomas and Mary (Clarke) Lancaster, through their daughter Martha Lancaster (b. about 1830), who married George Eastwood-Thompson. Becky Wilson (in the U.S.A.)
