The lady I'm making the enquiry for was referred to a friend of minesupposedly as "the shipwrecks expert."
He passed her email onto me.This is what she wrote to him:-
"However the Miscellaneous Death Registers show that a William Beckley died in a Military Hospital in Java 11th June 1841.
I do have a translation `from the Death Register at Batavia of the year eighteen hundred & fiftyone'
it states that William died at Welterreden at the Military Hospital. He was chief steward on the ship` Louisa Maria' which was ship wrecked.Other details given of his parents, age, place of birth etc confirm that this`our' William Beckley."
I found a record of the Louisa Maria in 1853 as well and did wonder if he had actually been taken off the ship because he was ill.William was her great-great-great grandfather and she has his parents' names and place of birth already so I assume that it is the story of the shipwreck or details about the ship which she is looking for.
Hmmm -just noticed a discrepancy with her dates.I'll try google with the later date.
Thanks, Petertimber, maybe you can perform a miracle because that is what it may take.
