Hi Ray,
I have an Andrew MCLACHLAN b. Stirlingshire, Scotland 21 March 1836.He was the son of William MCLACHLAN and Jean THOMSON.He was the brother of my ggggrandfather Robert MCLACHLAN who was born 1837 Stirling who arrived in Melbourne 15 April, 1855 on the ship ECHO with his wife Elizabeth SMITH.Robert had lied about his age on the ship's records. He states his age as 22 years when in fact he was only 18.
Robert and his family eventually settled in Chiltern, Victoria where he died 30 December 1908.He was a coach maker, undertaker and builder. Chiltern is just over the Victorian/NSW border, not far from ALBURY/WODONGA.
William MCLACHLAN the father of Robert and Andrew was married twice. He married Jean PAUL (do Charles PAUL and Janet KENNEDY) Glasgow 1825, one child to this union John 1827. His second marriage was to Jean THOMSON 1830 Sterling, Scotland, the children to this union were William 1830, James 1833, Margaret 1834, Andrew 1836, Robert 1837.
William MCLACHLAN was a Master Coachbuilder employing 15 men (Census 1851 - Stirling Parish) residing 9 King Street, Stirling, Stirlingshire.
Do you think it possible there is a connection? What line of work was your Andrew in?
Hope this has been of some assistance.
Regards
Jane
