John Lennon passage to Australia 1886

John died in Melbourne in 1928, he is buried in Cheltenham cemetery. On his death certificate it said he lived in Victoria for 42 years, no other states were listed. He was also a retired police constable. He was born in 1851 in Dundalk Ireland, he came to Australia with his brother Owen. I assume they came to Australia around 1886, I can find no list of them in passenger records and no records of Owen. If anyone has any advice on where to look next I would appreciate it.
Thanks
