Dear Michael,
This Is probably a long shot, but I have an Ann Hewitt who came to Australia from England in 1864 with her husband Richard Egan-Lee and two sons, Thomas and Abel. They settled and lived in the Collingwood and Fitzroy areas.
Ann's parents were Henry and Jane Hewitt, and Henry was an Editor.
Ann was born in 1818 and died in 1868 at the age of 50.
Hewett or Hewitt is not that common a name and I wondered if your Henry might be related? maybe a nephew.
Maryborough and Sale are a very long way from Melbourne, however one of Ann's children married and moved to a town near Sale; and as your Henry died in Fitzroy perhaps he had family there to come back to.
Families usually came to Australia in groups and Ann's brother and his family may have come with them.
I have no information about Ann's siblings to prove a connection but the coincidences seem to merit contacting you.
Ann's death certificate had her name spelt Hewitt, but checking some of the births from your Henry's children have shownspelling for both Hewitt and Hewett.
As I said this is a long shot but I am hoping these families fit.
I hope to hear from you soon
