Dear Shonagh,

I believe that the "New" Melbourne Cemetery at that time is now called Melbourne General Cemetery and located nar Carlton, just out of Melbourne. The "Old" Melbourne Cemetery was originally next to the Victoria Market Site in North Melbourne and extensions there consumed the original burial gorunds. Although most of the bodies were exhumed and re buried at Melbourne, there has been the odd story in recent times of constructions workers finding human bones etc.

Some one else may correct me- but that is my understanding

I hope that this helps
Good luck
Regards
Gordon
