KimberlySo we are third cousins, once removed.
For William Austin, I have: Born 20 Sep 1836, Arcadia twp, Wayne Co., NY.Married Rachel Louisa Edson (date?place?).Died 26 Feb 1921, Armstrong, Emmet, Iowa.I found the couple in the 1880 Iowa Census Enumeration Dist. l06 p. 58, Butler Co. Jefferson twp:with Stephen E., ll yrs, b. PA.My grandma said that William was her father's brother and he had a harness repair shop in Clarksville (Butler Co.) Iowa. Also found the family in 1895 Iowa Census, Butler Co. with wife Rachel Louisa (I had her middle name as Ann)? Also had a note that William died in Estherville, Iowa. (?)Most of my info came from "A Genealogy of the Decendants of Robert Austin of Kingstown, Rhode Island" by Edith Austin Moore. The Austin family (of Charles) all lived in Butler Co. Iowa, and jointly owned this book. When my mother was still alive and living with us , I borrowed it and had it copied and bound for her.I believe they sent their family info to Mrs. Moore, and so bought a copy of the book when it was printed.Have you ever seen a copy? It's in a number of libraries.
My mother was born and raised in Shell Rock, Butler, Iowa, and I knew and visited with all her aunts and uncles, and also played with their children and grandchildren. Some lived in Waverly, which is about 7 miles away.Grandpa Washburn was also a harness maker. He had a little shop in Shell Rock, and I used to go there to "help".I would love to have more info on the descendants of William, and anything on Snells you have found.Let me know what you need.Ferrol
