Elizabeth Austin Harrell Herring/John Harrell Al to MS to AR to MS
I have been researching my family history and have recently found that my great-great grandmother, Elizabeth Austin’s first husband was a John Harrell, reported on a census record as having been born in North Carolina, birth year unknown. Elizabeth was born in Alabama around 1820 and they might have met and married there. John Harrell died in Mississippi around 1851. He and Elizabeth had four children, Laminda born 1840 in MS, Robert born 12 Feb 1848 in MS died 3 Apr 1938 Lawton, OK, Isaac born 1849 in MS, and Malinda born 1851 in MS. My great grandfather was Robert. After John Harrell’s death Elizabeth married Lewis Herring on 19 Dec 1852 and they moved to Yell County, Arkansas. When Great Grandfather Robert was 13 he was sent to stay with the Jonathan Williams family in Bell County, Texas to keep him out of the Civil War.He never saw his mother, brother or sisters again. He became known as Robert Harrell Herring; hence our family surname is now known as Herring. Grandfather Robert married Mary Williams, one of Jonathan’s daughters. His stepfather, Lewis Herring died in 1862 and Elizabeth and the family moved back to Mississippi. Laminda married her stepbrother, Brian Herring, and Elizabeth moved in with them. Around 1877, Elizabeth and three of her stepsons, Brian, Benjamin and Absolom, and her son Isaac Harrell moved to Palo Pinto County, Texas and then on to Parker County, TX. Can anyone add to this?
