Hi Elva,
I was looking around for Moses, and was led here. One problem is if you put Moses Austin in as search parameters you keep ending up in Texas. A real nuisance. I did notice another of Mary's messages at:
Aroostook Board of Ancestry.com dated12FEB2002, titled ‘Robinson, Austin’, by Mary.
Would you please consider consulting your records to see if you have any information regarding an Eleanor/Elinor ROBINSON who may have married Moses AUSTIN?
Thank you kindly!
Mary
and find the presence of an Eleanor Robinson intriguing, especially as Robertson is very often transformed into Robinson. However looking at the Moses Austin in the 1850 census:
http://www.upperstjohn.com/1850/williams.htmhttp://www.upperstjohn.com/1850/williams.htm
Austin Moses 62 M Farmer Province of N.B.
Austin Elinor 49 F Province of N.B.
Austin Catherine 22 F Province of N.B.
Austin William 20 M Farmer Province of N.B.
Austin Moses, Jr. 18 M Farmer Province of N.B.
Austin Augustus 15 M Farmer Province of N.B.
Austin Ruth 13 F Province of N.B.
Austin Lydia 9 F Province of N.B.
Chase Charlotte 9 F Province of N.B.
Chase Isaac N. 7 M Province of N.B.
Chase Hiram A. 5 M Province of N.B.
Austin Robert 8 M Province of N.B.
presents some difficulties. This Moses was b. ca. 1788 in NB. In the 1813 petition for land, he says he was 30 years old (b. ca. 1783), and from Quebec City. Granted, census records are not all that reliable, and this 'Elinor' appears to be roughly contemporary with Ellen Robertson, still one might want to be cautious.
Another message I thought interesting was:
At Canada>Quebec City>General board, Ancestry.com: David A. Austin writes 13SEP2000
Moses Austin was born 25 Dec 1778, I know not where. He and his wife Sarah Beman were in Quebec City in the early 1800's. He was an Innkeeper and a shoemaker according to microfilms of the original church records at the centre d'archives de la capitale 1210 avenue du Seminaire, Sainte-Foy, Quebec, Canada. Moses and Sarah had three children two girls , who died shortly after birth. Their names were Anne and Lucy. A son Samuel Beman Austin was born 11 Nov 1809 in Quebec City. Samuel Beman died in minneapolis mn i 1891. Moses wife Sarah returned to Hampton , Washington County NY and lived with her son Samuel B. in Hampton in the 1850-60 time frame. do not, however think that Moses returned to the USA. Request help finding out if Moses died in Quebec City. Thanks
Well, I included the extracts from the 1850 census in my notes, so if someone else asks I can pass it on. Perhaps they might be able to confirm they are the same person.
Thomas
