Good to hear from you Victoria!
My AUSTINs came to the United States prior to the 1800's and settled in Massachusetts, Maine and New Brunswick. Moses AUSTIN is the earliest of our line - and he can be found in Aroostook County, Maine in 1850.
Have you tried placing specific postings on various genforums - Canada, England and Austin?
There were a number of men in the family who married and would of course, retain the AUSTIN surname - have you tried looking for descendants by writing all persons listed in the phone book with the AUSTIN surname who are living in the area from which they came? You can find their addresses on-line. It would be a tedious project - but you could discover a relative. I have also written letters to the editors of papers in the areas where I thought family might be living.
Does anyone in Mary's family know any other family members? Perhaps there are old pictures, diaries, letters which could provide important clues.
Also consider hiring a researcher in England -
Happy hunting!
Mary
