Stephen Austin of Texas Fame
While researching my Evarts ancestors in
Guilford, Ct., I ran across this footnote
from the History of Guilford,Ct., by
Ralph Smith, 1877:
"Francis Austin, who embarked in the
Lambertson ship and was lost, is supposed to
be the ancestor of the Austins who resided
formerly in the north part of North Guilford,
from who descended Stephen Austin, formerly
of that village, who figured so conspicuously
in the history of Texas and after whom the
city of Austin is named."
Hope this helps.
