Obituary from "The Idaho Statesman" dated 28 Apr 2002:
Helen M. Aune
Boise resident Helen M. Aune died of heart failure on Thursday, April 25, 2002, at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of Boise for the last 15 years after she retired as a registered nurse in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Aune was a resident of Valley View Skilled Nursing Home for past two years. Mrs. Aune was born July 11, 1913, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Benjamin and Hilja Maki who had emigrated from Finland a few years before she was born. She was raised in Duluth and graduated from Duluth Central High School, and later graduated from Fergus Falls Nursing School as a registered nurse. In 1948, she moved to California and raised her two sons as a single parent. She spent most of her nursing career as a supervisory nurse for Los Angeles County. Her two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Erickson of Duluth, Minnesota, and Mrs. Joseph McCusker of Brookline, Massachusetts; and her brother, Mr. George Maki of Canoga Park, California, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Mr. Lowell "Bud" Aune of Boise, and Mr. Philip S. Aune of Sacramento, California. Six grandchildren residing in California and Minnesota also survive her. Mrs. Aune was a cheerful woman with a wonderful, infectious smile. She loved to entertain, garden and travel during her active retirement years. A lifelong Lutheran, she was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Boise. As an expression of her faith she said, "The most remarkable thing about my life is that God always looked out for me" in a story about her reported in The Idaho Statesman in December. Memorials should be donated to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Education Fund. Funeral arrangements and graveside memorial service at Dry Creek Cemetery are pending.
