Please check the genforum under Altman. I have many ancestors who were Altmans, who were in Dooley Co. Ga, which is next to Houston Co. Ga. Some were even born in Houston Co. I am not sure when they started in this area, but at least one of the children was born in that county in 1839. There are at least two born there with the name of William Jordan Altman. The furthest back I can trace this line is to Littleton Mitchell Altman Sr. born in 1816, probably in SC. Perhaps they were brothers or cousins.
