Aultmans, Altmans Calvin Doteridge Altman is my grandfather on my mother's side/ I believe I have been beatilng the same dead horse for over 39 years. I have seen that Barbary census. It is flawed in as much as malissa is listed as 12 in 1859. IN 1860 in Miss. she is still 12. It seems abit much to believe that a 22 year old could pass for a 12 year old. And she was born in 1838, sam year as Nolah Lafayette. I have found the following info: Founding Fathers of Summpter County list John and Thomas Aultman. If lyou have access to maps you will diwscover that the county lines change dramatically over the years. Ihaave a death announcement that states John Aultman 64, from SumperAla but born in SC, died in Mississipi while visiting his son William.Just another string. Now, here comes the big Aha! Don't know why I didn't remember it before. I am sure you are aware that Loah L. performed marriages, some his own children's. So, he was a minister. I knew that! BUT, in reminicing with two of my elderly aunts (aultmans and an uncle. There was aparenrtly considerable gossip concerning the scandal involving NLA. To quote my aunts,"Folks were really upset that an Indian would dare be a preacheer" And my family has told us that he, Noah Lafayette, taught them to count to 10 in an Indian language. It's a thread. Next stop Indian censuses. There are many to persue. hope this helps someone. Notify Administrator about this message?
