Joseph AUER was born 19 May 1821 either in Lingenfeld or in Amberg, in the Bavarian Oberpfalz. He arrived in Baltimore aboard the bark "Emma" on 22 October 1853. Also on the ship was Barbara SCHIRM, born 4 Dec. 1830 in Wittenberg or in Pittersberg, also in the Bavarian Oberpfalz. They were married in November 1854 at St. John's Catholic Church in Delphos, Ohio and settled on a farm in Van Wert County, Ohio. According to family tradition, they may have been cousins and not permitted to marry in Germany, but I have not as yet verified this.
