James Achmuty/ Auchmoody of Ulster County, NY
Would anyone have any information on the origins or parents of a James Achmuty (later Auchmoody) [born about 1707] who was the first Scotsman in Ulster County, New York? He settled in New Paltz, New York where he married Maria/ Mary Deyo in February of 1731 and had several children. After her death in the 1750's, he married a Dorcas Frederick Eyverie and served in the American Revolution, dying after 1790 according to DAR records. He may have left Ulster County after the Revolution.
