Regarding the PARADIS surname in France and Quebec, you might benefit from a biography for Pierre Paradis, immigrant to Quebec from Mortagne, France in the series Thomas J. Laforest, published in 1986 (found in many libraries - you can buy the pertinent volume from Quentin Publications, Florida - Paradis is Vol. 1 and Aubin is Vol 16). In that series is another biography for Michel Aubin who was born at St. Aubin de Torouvre, Perche (now Orne). According to Laforest there are 75 localities in France that bear this name. Laforest also states that pioneers to Quebec from this same region are: Juchereau, Giguere, Crete, Guimond, Mercier, Tremblay and Aubin. This is significant because I have found that several of these surnames are found married into my "Benjamin dit St. Aubin" line. To me it gives a clue as to where the dit St. Aubin family came from. I see that some people have posted that the name could be St. Aubin dit Benjamin...another clue to track down. It is also interesting to note that the same person who was involved in the Pierre Paradis emigration was involved with the Michel Aubin emigration, that is Robert Giffard. Another interesting thing is that Jacques Paradis (probably Pierre's son) was a witness to the marriage of Michel Aubin and Marie Provost. They had one child that survived to marry, Pierre Aubin. He married Jeanne Milloir and they had 11 children. This is probably where the Paradis and Aubin name was combined because the Milliour family had several marriages with the Paradis family. Laforest says that from this union the Aubin name is perpetuated today. I hope this helps... Katherine Levesque kljlancestry@gmail.com Notify Administrator about this message?
