My husband's Great grandfather was born Paul Louis Aubert in Marseille,France around 1869 or so. We do not know much of his childhood. He was an orphan. We were told his father died at sea. His mother was sick. He and his dog would fish & steal fish on the docks. He stayed sometime in a Catholic orphanage. (The Church has since burnt along with records) He had a married sister who left to live in Australia. At somepoint he left to join her. Sometime later, he came to the west coast of the U.S. Built houses in Portland, OR. Homesteaded land in Hood River, OR. Married a French girl from Paris,France area. Dairy farmed, had six children, family names include: George Louis, Paul Nicholas, Helene Jean, Leslie Roy, Marie, Gladys?, Blanche. The families still farm this area (pear orchards now) Paul's son, my father-in-law, George Loius Aubert just passed away Friday at 92. There is one living daughter Helene, age 97. My son's name is Paul Louis Aubert. There is a lot of sentiment for the origins of the Paul Louis from Marseille, France. can you help me? There has also been mention of a brother coming to the U.S. sometime later. I do not know if he was older or younger? or if other siblings. I do not think he settled in the west, therefore there was little and no contact through the years
