It looks like old Samuel got around - by 1860 he apparently had moved to Arkansas. (The oldest daughter Maria was b. in Mississippi.)
Sorry, but I don't have anyone in my tree who fits his description - b. about 1828 in either AL or TN. It might be worth a trip to MS and AR to check out the courthouses for anything futher.
My mob was from VA/WVA. If you can track down a male Atwell who descends from Samuel you might want to do a DNA test on him.
