Nancy-Peter de Wyckhurst born ABT 1195 has an interesting name. It could be possible that the "de" came from Normandy (Normans)
who conquered the Angles & Saxons or Angles
Land. The Norsemen (Vikings)who resided in
Normandy had French as the gentleman's
language. The "De or "de" means "of" or
"the". The name WYCK is an early term or
name most probably brought when the Vikings
were raiding the populations after the Romans
withdrew from the Isles in the 400's AD. The
name is thought to indicated a location.
The suffix "hurst" is Saxon meaning in the
written form meaning "the wooded hill".
With the name of de Wyckhurst it might have
been the Atte Wode plan to Saxonize it abit.
"Atte" (of or at) Wode (Wood). William
of Wode. A Title, but Saxonized. If you have
any other comments, please contact me as I
have copies of materials about Wyck(hurst)
I can send to you. E-Mail ramscm@Yahoo.com.
