Fox Valley Magazine, Dec. 1942

Wheaton - If the way to a man's heart is via his stomach, then a snack or a meal at Wally's Cafe, 211 W. Front St., Wheaton, owned and operated by Ralph Attig, will certainly win you. Good food, well served, and with a real "home cooked" flavor makes you glad to return for more any hour of the twenty-four that you are hungry.

Ralph Attig's father, John, and his mother, Dorothea Salzman, were descendants of German folk who settled near Pontiac in the early fifties. His parents were farmers and Ralph was born and reared in the country. Big families were the usual thing in those days, so Ralph says he has cousins in almost every state in the Union.

After his education in the country and Pontiac High Schools, Mr. Attig worked on the paternal farm until about 1919, at which time he entered the restaurant business in Pontiac. Successful, but feeling his opportunities limited, he removed to Wheaton in 1928 to operate Wally's Cafe. He purchased the property in 1933 and a few years later removed two doors east to his present location.

Mrs. Attig whom Ralph married shortly before coming to Wheaton, is the former Helen Louise Winters of Pontiac.

When able to get away from his business, Mr. Attig like to watch a good baseball game, or, that not being convenient, listen to one over the radio.
