Chet, possible but not confirmed that Spencer and Martin were brothers. Martin married Rebecca Franks, sister to Milly. The catch is that Marshall named Rebecca's husband in his will as Martin Atkinson! However, I have NEVER found him with that name since. He shows up in all the census and land records as either Martin or Mastin Atkins (Even Adkins in 1830 MS). Martin was born in SC in 1973, the year before Spencer was born in VA, and I have never been able to reconcile that. Some Salt Lake City researchers of the Franks line think that Spencer and Martin were brothers. They contend that Atkins/Atkinson and Adkins/Adkinson were all interchangable in SC during the period. Since Spencer was known to have been in Laurens in 1815, I took the position that he "might" have been there in 1810, and if so, most likely with his parents. Of course, we know that he had married Milly and was in Tennessee by 1820. Last year I spent considerable time looking at the SC census info for 1790 through 1820, but could not prove anything by it. I have been slowly trying to eliminate some of the names, like Betsy, etc. I eliminated all the Adkins/Atkins in the whole '96 part of SC that did NOT have sons between 10 and 26 for 1810. Ended up with a list of three, Betsy and William of Laurens, and William of Greenville. But thats only any good if we knew that his father (parent) were there at all! So the recent requests for information on Wyatt and the 1810 census folks is really all about either Martin or Spencer. Martin, like Wyatt, seemed to always end up where Spencer was. Maybe they were all brothers! Good Luck! to us. Ed
