My dear Mr Atkins, The original Atkins families migrated to the US from England via two original US Colonies which were Mass. and Va. Your Benjamin is one of three (3) Benjamins originally from Virginia. They came from the following counties of Orange -2 and Sussex. There were 6 John's and 1 John Jr. The very first Atkins resided near the Jamestown settlement and was a son of Edward Atkins of Chard, Somerset, England and then the family grew. My husband is a direct decended great grandson of Thomas Preston Atkins, son of James Dudley Atkins; son of Reuben Atkins born 1803. There is an Absolom Atkins listed for King William Co. b.1750 but no other info available. King William was esta. from King & Queen Co. which came to be out of New Kent Co. out of York Co. which at its establishment was a sister Co. to Henrico. There are fourteen definitive spellings for Atkins and nine of these resided in these counties. If you have additional info I would apreciate any help you could give.Sincerely, Ida Atkins of Hanover Virginia
