Benjamin Atkins was an 18th century Carolinian whose son Thomas Sr. (b~1773) moved from SC to Alabama between 1831-1834 with most of their 13 children. Thomas Sr. and wife Elizabeth Creed (m. 1795) lived in Tuscaloosa County, AL ca. 1834-1855 (until his death).
Thomas Atkins Sr. came to AL with 7 daughters and these 6 sons:
Thomas Jr. (b~1800 in SC, d~1844 in Tuscaloosa County)
Abram (b~1805-10 in SC, m. Sarah McGuire, 1st minister of Northport Baptist Church in 1938, no other info)
Benjamin (b~1810 in SC, lived in Tuscaloosa County until ~1843, m. Martha Buchannon May 1944 in NC)
Joseph (b. 5 May 1814, m. Mary Christian Jan 1835, d. 26 Jul 1895)
Abner (~1820-1881)
Robert M. (1825-1902)
If Reed Atkins was related to Thomas Sr., perhaps this info can help. Let me know if you discover anything more detailed.
