I am looking for any information on a Jefferson Atkins. He was born abt.1830 NC and died in 1864 (Civil War Prisoner) at Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL. He married Emaline (Emily) Dickson on 11 Nov 1854 Watuaga (Ashe) Co., NC. Their children were: Irwin, Cynthia Caroline, & George Douglas Dickson. I have found Jefferson listed in the 1860 Census with Emily, Irwin, & Cynthia and Duglas Dixon, Emily's father. I have seen Jefferson's surname spelled Adkins and Atkins. I believe because of a mix-up with his name Emily & children went back to using her maiden name of Dickson. His military record has him listed as Adkins Jefferson, so their was not a pension for him either. He is listed as Jefferson Atkins on his son George's death certificate. Any information would greatly be appreciated.
