Bill, my grandfather's sister, Kate ATKINS, was b.abt.1859 @ Haydenville,MA. the fourth child of George ATKINS
and Sophia(Tanner)ATKINS...parents both b.in ENG. George I think was b. abt 1820. Sophia was b. Oct 1828
and came to NY in1830. The father, George Sr., d. abt 1870 in NYC... The mother, Sophia, d.1912 @ Kings Park
State Hospital on Long Island.... George and Sophia were m.(I believe in NYC) abt 1849. The children were William, Joseph, George, Kate, Samuel (my grdfather), and Sophie. After Kate's death in 1893,NYC the younger sister, Sophie, returned to Illinois with Samuel who had gone there after his father's death in the early 1870's. Sophia died in IL in 1894 and was returned to NY for burial in the same grave as her sister Kate. It is my
belief that the three older boys were still living in the NYC area at that time (1894). At the 1900 census Sophia
Tanner ATKINS was listed living with her sister in Manhatten. Over a 15 yr. period I have been unable to find any of the older boys. Pure speculation but very possible, Kate ATKINS ARBUCKLE could be the niece of George
ATKINS, dau of his brother... Do you know her ancestry? I need to work the census records some more. Please
