Susannah Atkins was definitely the daughter of John Atkins Jr and Nancy (Ann) Burrus. She is the sister of My Elizabeth Atkins who married a Groom.

John Atkins Jr. filed a pension application in 1818 and in 1820. Eliz Groom and her two children and John's wife are mentioned. Ann is said to be 80, but that has to be a mistake. She is the daughter of Edmund Burras of Orange.

Susannah is not mentioned but a list of marriages does name her with Henry Bell and she is listed as the dau of John Jr and Nancy. Surety Roger (Henry's father).
There is a Brockman Bell and Rebecca Brockman dau of John. 1810. I have only one page for Bells, but they are named in Orange County Families by Brockman.

I have information from Margaret Kinsey of Lamesa Tx that is several years old - she is a Smith, a descendant of Susannah.

If you will e-mail me, I will send you her address.

I have as Susannah's children:
Mahuldah - m. James Smith: Nancy m. Stephen Lyon; Eliz. M. Wm. Slaughter, Susanna m. Moses Bell: James Madison m. Mary Ann Penny:
John Burrus (Bell) who m. Phoebe Durr; Henry C.Bell, Jrl, m. Mary Slaughter then a Burrus (I think, unless it is Mary slaughter Burrus - which I doubt.)

All married in Orange, seem to have been born in Orange and married in Mercer co., Ky. - some moved to Missouri.

Susannah died in Mercer Co. in 1839. This info I have from Ms. Kinsey.

If you see the application of John Jr., you can see why I have been so curious about Susannah, although she is the sister of my own Eliz.
