John Atkins Sr., m. 1853 Orange Co., to Susannah Brockman had 13 children, among them John Jr. John Jr. had dau. Eliz who married a Groom (unknown which). Eliz Atkins Groom had dau. Eliz Groom who married Achilles Atkins in Orange 1826. Achilles is obviously one of John Sr.'s descendants in Orange, but which one? There is a Wisdom Atkins and if strange names mean anything - Wisdom and Achilles seem a good pair. Achilles signed for Solomon Groom, brother of Eliz. Groom (his wife) when Solomon married Eliz. Chiles in 1831 (Solomon's first wife was Eliz Harris dau of Overton). Sometime after 1831 Achilles and Eliz moved to Ross Co. Ohio where he disappears but she is listed as head of household - only they have a daughter, Missouri, after the census of 1840 when he is not listed. Perhaps he got a hankering for the state of Missouri and left - I don't know. Seriously, he must have died about 1844 because she died soon and the children are with other family members. Would love to solve this mystery. Pat Snyder
