Jeanne, Thank you for your reply. We don't know much definitely about Reuben Atkins' family in Patrick County. His mother's name may have been Sarah/Sally and he may have had two sisters: Julia and Susan (or Susan Nannie). Reuben had 13 children in Ky., and the tale has been passed down that he left Va. around age 10-14. Probably hired on with a family that was migrating. To our knowledge, no other family members migrated to Ky. I have located a Sarah Adkins in the 1840 Patrick Va. census that could be related. Would be interested in any Atkins info you have from that time period.
