Hi Christy-
I don't have the 1840 census index, but I have 1850.

In 1850 he (and I think this is your guy)- wife & 2 kids match- was in
Lancaster Co., Sadsbury Twp.
The scan is very hard to read. I am attaching it so you can puzzle it out. Blow
it up to 150% and then print it out- it might be easier.

Davis Atkins 33 M Carpenter b Pa
Elizabeth Atkins 29 F "
Alfred Atkins 8 M " school
Charles Atkins 6 M " "
Jane M. Atkins 4 F "
The??gia? Atkins 3/12 F "
Henry ?Ward? 21 M do "
Richard M. Scha??en 26 M do New York
Jacob Ha??ms 35 M do Pa

Since Davis Atkins is a unique name (there weren't any others) you could try
the family finder index at www.familytreemaker.com. It will tell you what CD's
the name appears on. Then there is a page on rootsweb.com where you can ask for
lookups in particular CD's, such as the 1840 census index.

Because he was in Lancaster Co, looking on Accessible Archives probably won't
help, since that is Chester Co. Newspapers. However, go to the Lancaster Co Gen
Web page, and you might find some lookups available. <www.usgenweb.org> go to
state pages, then go to county list and click on Lancaster.

Hope this helps.

Anne
