I show William A. Athey as the son of George and Ann Athey. George was born 8 Aug 1721 in Prince Georges, MD, son of John Athy and Margaret Lewis. He married Ann circa 1740 and they had six sons: Samuel, William A, Thomas, Benjamin, Elsworth, Hezekiah McClash.
George's father, John Athy, lived on Broad Creek in the portion of Prince George's Co. which, prior to 1696, was in Charles Co. John was born circa 1673, son of George and Ann Athey. John married Margaret Lewis on 4 June 1711 at St. John Parish, Prince Georges, MD. They had three sons & two daughters: John Jr, Thomas, George, Mary, Anne. John died in 1729.
John's father, George Athy, was born in Galway, Ireland in 1642. Circa 1662, he was transported as a bond servant to Thomas Dent to Maryland. George is believed first to have been married to Ann, then later to Sarah. I have details on over thirty court and land records regarding him between 1694 to 1715. George died prior to 21 Dec 1709. The inventory of his goods totalled £28.12.1.
George's father, Francis, was born circa 1614 and died before 1666. He lived on St. Augustine Street in Galway, Ireland. In 1640 he served as Sheriff of Galway. He had sons Walter, George and John and daughters Susannah and Angelina.
