I have lots of lines of the James Atherton (1626-1710) who emigrated to Dorchester, MA, in 1635. Check out my file at www.fwb.gulf.net/~athertonb, or email me with specific questions.

Some sources claim he is the brother of Humphrey. However, I do not accept it. I have a copy of a Lancashire, England, legal proceeding specifying that an Edmund Atherton, who died 1613, had heir Humphrey Atherton, born about 1609. I believe this to be the Humphrey who emigrated, and James could not be the (full) brother of this Humphrey, since Edmund died 11 years before James was born. If anyone has any specific documentation refuting my beliefs in this matter, please post.
