There are a number of posts on this and other websites that insist the parents of Humphrey Atherton, the New England emigrant, are known, established, certain, factual, etc., but other than the baptism of a Humphrey Atherton in Upholland, Lancashire, in 1609, I have been able to find any actual evidence (published sources or manuscripts) of the New Englander's parentage. "I have seen a will...," "if memory serves me...," "there is no question that...," "the preponderence of evidence shows..." do not help at all. WHAT evidence? WHERE can I see or verify it? Has it been published in a reliable, footnoted journal or book? I am interested in real, provable history, not fantasy or speculation maquerading as fact. Can anyone help me out? (see my post of Nov. 18 below)
