My ancestor is Harrison Atherton born 12 Oct 1836. His mother was Hannah Huff. According to his death certificate, his father was Stephen Atherton. I am very perplexed concerning this line. Hannah's maiden name was Huff and for all appearances she did not marry. Harrison used the Atherton name. Hannah took in Marion Frances Atherton (a nephew) when Marion's father, (Asahel Atherton b 1800 PA) died in Michigan. Marion (then known as Frances) lived with Harrison and his wife in 1870 (NY, Allegany Co.) I am quite puzzled about the Huff/Atherton relationships. I would like to see your information. Maybe there is something that may be of help to determine if Stephen Atherton (b 1796 in Luzerne Co., PA) is actually Harrison's father.
