I have information on a Caleb ATHERTON in PA whodied before 1790 in Luzerne Co PA. Some of the information came from the DAR Patriot Index and some from Wyoming Historical Society. This Caleb had a son Moses born abt 1775 in Plymouth PA. He married a "Ruth". They had four children: Truman (1794-1882), Caleb (1794-1867), Adnah and Stephen. If I am not mistaken, Truman served in the PA legislature so there might be considerable family information available on him. I have not checked since it is not my direct line.
Although neither of these matches your dates, I have found in my research that the ATHERTON family often carried given names for several generations, so this might provide a lead for you.
