Yes, there are a lot of Athertons within the Chapelry of Farnworth and the live in places like Bold, Sutton, Widnes and so forth .

Some of these did not conform to the Church of England till after 1600 and this is no rare thing in the area that they lived .
They try to avoid C Of E baptisms etc which complecates matters but in the end they leave the Roman Catholic .
They are recorded as recusant catholics.
