I have researched practically every family in Ballard KY; and very likely your Atherton may connect to my C. Atherton; however, mine was born 1845-46 KY; and I and other researcher agree he is in fact, Tolbert C. Atherton, son of Canada and Elender Atherton. Tracking every name in Miss, I finally located him 1880 Miss, he is 32 years old and married to second wife Maranda; he has one son, Edgar and she has one son Oscar (these are defintely my ancestors. He came to Grayson County TX 1882-1885, along with connection of the Honnel/Hunnel/Honnoll families, Parrish and Savages. It is thought the Atherton's traveled with them by train to Texas. C. Atherton worked on the Gunter ranch until his wife, Marinda died around 1888; he then lived with Grandma Honnel and Uncle Tom on Charley Poss/Pough/Polk farm until the house was moved during a cyclone; he left after that incident. His son said he took the two younger sons, himself and my grandfather, traveling toward Houston Galveston area, eventually coming to the Dallas area. C. Atherton never appears in a census after 1880, since he died (we think) about 1898.
I believe most of the Atherton in Tarrant, Grayson and Hunt county are connected; proving it is another thing. I will look at my research on your ancestors to see what I know about them.
